So I watched this video, about gamifying education, and ya
know I think it might be a pretty good idea, and there are a couple of reasons.
First of all, not everyone learns the same way; we all know that, at least I think
we do. And gamification is a very visually stimulating way of learning, its
hands on, and it also creates a sort of communication between students who otherwise
probably would not talk to each other unless they are forced to. But
gamification gives them the opportunity to do things on their own, and also
talk to other people working on the same thing that may be doing it in a
different way. Secondly, it gives a better reward/award system. I mean the classic
A,B,C,D, and F system is kind of busted and out dated, because it basically
says that you will never get 100%, but the gamification is points added, not
taken away, so there is no direct promise of a perfect A, but it is probably
more possible if you put in the work.
My little brother is probably one of the most perfect
examples of a gamification education. He refused to learn to read our mom tried
everything (she had taught my sister and myself how using conventional ways).
He was really into the Tomb Raider video games, and he had asked for the guide
book and the new game for his birthday. Out mom got it for him and he learned
how to read using that guide book because he wanted to know what to do in the
game. Tomb Raider taught my little brother how to read, weird right?
This is not a class for everybody, but I think a class like
this would benefit me, and teach me more about how I learn, because I am very
old school, have to be in class in front of a teacher, but maybe with a class
like this I can learn to stand on my own.
